Spreader Bars

What are spreader bars?

A spreader bar is a straight bar, usually metal, with a cuff fixed at each end. Strapped to the ankles, it keeps the legs apart; strapped to the wrists, it does the same for the arms. Unlike rope or chain it cannot be closed, which is exactly the point: it holds a position and leaves the body open. Spreader bars are one of the simplest pieces of bondage furniture and a natural step up from basic restraints.

Types of spreader bars

Adjustable and expandable bars

Telescoping or multi-position bars that lock at different lengths, so one bar fits different bodies and positions. Lux Fetish, Sportsheets, Edge and Master Series all offer adjustable or expandable designs, often with detachable cuffs.

Steel spreader bars

Solid stainless steel bars from Master Series are heavy, cold and unmistakably serious. They suit experienced players who want rigidity and a stark look, and some include a collar or extra restraint points.

Leather and leatherette cuff bars

Padded leather or faux leather cuffs make longer sessions comfortable. Strict Leather and Rouge pair them with adjustable bars, and Lux Fetish uses leatherette cuffs that unclip from the bar.

Soft and fabric bars

Sex and Mischief's lace and Enchanted bars, and the Secret Kisses Rosegasm set, take a lighter approach with fabric cuffs and romantic styling. They are the gentlest introduction and the least intimidating to look at.

Spreader bar sets and systems

Bundles that add wrist cuffs, a hog-tie connection, a blindfold or a collar. The Lux Fetish Hog-Tie and four-cuff bars, the Strict Spreader Bar System and the Master Series Dominion Bar let you build fuller positions from one purchase.

How to choose spreader bars

Comfort and control matter more than looks, especially for your first bar.

• Adjustability: an adjustable bar fits more positions and more bodies; a fixed length is simpler but less forgiving.
• Cuff comfort: padded leather or soft fabric cuffs allow longer wear; thin straps can dig in.
• Release: look for buckles, clips or hook-and-loop closures that the person tied down or their partner can undo quickly; avoid locks unless you keep the key within reach.
• Weight and material: steel is rigid and heavy; lighter bars are easier to move and store.
• Extras: decide whether you want wrist cuffs, a hog-tie link or a blindfold included, or prefer to add them separately.

How to use and care for spreader bars

Set the length first, then fasten the cuffs snugly but not tightly; you should fit a finger between cuff and skin. Agree a check-in word and keep the person in your sight for the whole session.

• Never leave someone alone while restrained, and release at once if a limb goes numb, cold or tingly.
• Keep sessions short at first and change position regularly to avoid strain on hips and shoulders.
• Wipe metal and leatherette with a damp cloth; condition leather occasionally; hand-wash fabric cuffs and air-dry.
• Check locking pins, buckles and stitching before every use and retire worn parts.
• Plan aftercare: a blanket, water and a few quiet minutes once the cuffs come off.

Spreader bars for beginners and couples

Couples often buy a spreader bar after cuffs and a blindfold, when they want to hold a position rather than just tie hands. For a first bar, pick an adjustable design with padded, quick-release cuffs, and start with ankles only. Our beginner collection has gentle companions, and a set of lingerie or a blindfold completes the scene. More experienced couples can move to steel bars, hog-tie sets or combined pieces that pair a bar with anal toys. Whatever the setup, communicate constantly and stop the moment anyone wants to.
