Masturbators & Strokers

What are masturbators and strokers?

Masturbators and strokers are sleeve-style toys for the penis. The simplest is a soft tube with a textured interior that you move by hand. From there the category climbs through vibrating and self-lubricating sleeves to rechargeable automatic units that add suction, thrusting or rotation. Realistic styles are moulded with a vulva, anus or mouth opening, while abstract pocket strokers keep things compact and discreet.

Types of masturbators and strokers

Manual and pocket strokers

Hand-held sleeves, from reversible textured pocket strokers that fit in a travel bag to larger closed-end sleeves that build gentle suction. Self-lubricating versions arrive pre-coated. See the full range of strokers and pocket strokers.

Vibrating strokers

A sleeve with a bullet or motor built in, so the texture is paired with vibration. These sit at an approachable price and are a sensible step up from a manual sleeve. Browse vibrating masturbators.

Suction and oral-style masturbators

Rechargeable toys that create a pulling sensation, sometimes combined with vibration, to mimic oral sex. Many stand upright on a table for hands-free use. Compare suction masturbators.

Automatic thrusting and rotating masturbators

The premium end of the range: motorised units that stroke, rotate or thrust on their own, often with multiple patterns, a phone attachment or a mode that syncs with what you are watching. They are larger, louder and pricier, but genuinely hands-free. See automatic masturbators.

Realistic masturbators

Moulded sleeves shaped like a vulva or a vulva and anus, in soft skin-like materials. Some are dual-entry so you can switch textures. Find them under realistic masturbators.

How to choose a masturbator

Decide how much work you want the toy to do, then match the sleeve to your size and your tolerance for cleaning.

• Manual or motorised: Manual sleeves are quiet, cheap to replace and easy to rinse. Motorised units add suction and movement but need charging.
• Open or closed end: Open sleeves rinse straight through. Closed ends feel snugger and build suction but need more drying time.
• Texture and tightness: Softer, looser sleeves suit beginners and sensitive users; firmer ribbed interiors deliver more intensity.
• Size and portability: Pocket strokers travel discreetly; torso and full-size pieces need storage space.
• Realistic or abstract: A matter of taste. Abstract designs are often easier to clean and less conspicuous.

How to use and care for a masturbator

Always use a water-based lubricant. Soft stroker materials and silicone can both be damaged by silicone or oil-based lube.

• Rinse the sleeve through with warm water and a mild toy cleaner after every use.
• Dry fully inside before storing; a dusting of renewing powder keeps soft materials smooth.
• Keep motorised units out of water unless the packaging says otherwise, and remove any detachable sleeve to clean it separately.
• Stop if you feel pinching, chafing or numbness, and add more lubricant before trying again.

Masturbators for beginners and partners

A plain pocket stroker or a self-lubricating closed-end sleeve is the gentlest introduction. Partners sometimes use a stroker on each other as part of foreplay, and automatic units let one person run the show from across the room. Trans and non-binary shoppers will also find a stroker designed for use after testosterone in this range.
