Dildos

What is a dildo?

A dildo is an insertable intimate toy, usually shaped to be held or used with a harness, designed for solo or partnered play. Dildos come in many sizes, textures and materials, from lifelike designs to colorful, fantasy-inspired shapes. Knowing the main types makes it easier to find one that suits your comfort level.

Types of dildos

Realistic dildos

Shaped and textured to look natural, realistic dildos suit shoppers who prefer a familiar form.

Vibrating dildos

These add a motor for extra sensation, often with several speeds. Browse vibrating dildos if you want both.

Suction cup dildos

A flat base that sticks to smooth surfaces keeps hands free. Suction cup dildos are popular for solo play and for harness use.

Double-ended dildos

Two ends allow shared use between partners. Double-ended dildos are usually flexible for comfort.

Fantasy dildos

Creative shapes and colors for those who like something playful and unusual.

How to choose a dildo

• Materials: Medical-grade silicone, glass and stainless steel are common body-safe choices. Silicone is soft and warm to the touch, while glass and metal are smooth and rigid. Be cautious with very soft, sticky materials with a chemical smell, which may be porous.
• Firmness: Softer and flexible options tend to be more forgiving. Firmer options hold their shape better.
• Size: Check length and girth measurements, not just photos. A smaller size is a sensible first step, and you can go up gradually.
• Power: If you choose a vibrating model, rechargeable options save on batteries, while battery-powered ones are simple to replace.
• Noise: Non-vibrating dildos are silent, which some people prefer for privacy.
• Harness compatibility: If you plan to use a strap-on, look for a flared base and check the ring size against your harness.

How to use and care for your dildo

Take your time and use plenty of lubricant. Water-based lubricants are compatible with almost all materials. Avoid silicone lube on silicone toys, as it can damage the surface. Condoms are useful if you share the toy or use it on different body areas, and make cleanup easier.

• Wash before and after each use with warm water and mild unscented soap or a toy cleaner.
• Silicone, glass and metal can usually be cleaned thoroughly, but check the manufacturer's instructions first.
• Dry fully and store each toy in its own pouch, away from heat, sunlight and other materials.
• Check glass toys for chips or cracks before each use, and stop using any damaged toy.

Safety

Go slowly, relax and stop if anything feels uncomfortable. If you experience pain or bleeding, or have any medical question, consult a healthcare professional. Do not use a toy designed for vaginal use anally and then vaginally without cleaning it or changing the condom.

Dildos for solo and partnered play

Many people enjoy a dildo on their own, while others bring one into partnered play, either held by hand or worn with a harness. Communication is the key: talk about size, pace and comfort before you start. A suction base can free up your hands, and a slightly curved shape can feel different from a straight one. It is common to own a few shapes and materials and choose between them depending on your mood.
