Silicone Lubricants

What are silicone lubricants?

Silicone lubricants are personal lubricants built on a silicone base rather than water. Because silicone does not absorb into skin or evaporate, a small amount stays slick for a long time, which makes these formulas a favorite for longer sessions, anal play and anything involving water. Most are unscented, unflavored and free of glycerin, and they work well with latex condoms. The trade-off is that silicone lube should be kept away from silicone toys, and it takes a little soap to wash off afterwards.

Types of silicone lubricants

Everyday silicone glides

Classic formulas such as Pjur Original, Swiss Navy, Sliquid Naturals Silver and Wicked Ultra are the all-rounders of the category: clear, odorless and designed for intercourse, massage or solo use. Many come in several bottle sizes, so you can try a small one before committing to a larger bottle.

Anal silicone lubricants

Formulas like Pjur Back Door and Pjur Analyse Me are thicker and built for staying power, since anal play relies on plenty of lubricant and the body does not produce its own. Some include jojoba or other conditioning ingredients. Browse the wider anal lubricant range for water-based alternatives you can use with silicone toys.

Warming, cooling and stimulating formulas

Wicked Ultra Heat and Wicked Ultra Chill add a gentle temperature sensation, while Sliquid's Booty Buzz and Spark lines offer a tingling effect. These are worth trying once you know a plain silicone lube agrees with your skin. See more in warming lubricants and the cooling lubricants collection.

Hybrid silicone and water blends

Skins Fusion blends silicone with a water base for a middle ground: slicker than water-based lube, easier to clean than pure silicone. Our hybrid lubricants collection gathers these together.

How to choose silicone lubricant

With dozens of bottles that look alike, a few questions narrow the field quickly.

• Activity: For vaginal intercourse or massage, a light everyday glide is plenty. For anal play, choose a thicker anal formula and use more than you think you need.
• Toys: If silicone toys are involved, switch to a water-based lubricant or a hybrid. Silicone lube is fine with glass, steel and hard plastic toys.
• Sensitivity: Start with an unscented, additive-free formula such as Pjur Light or Sliquid Naturals Silver before experimenting with warming, cooling or tingling versions.
• Bottle size: Silicone lube goes a long way, so a small bottle lasts longer than you would expect. Pump bottles make one-handed use easier.
• Condoms: Silicone lube is compatible with latex and polyisoprene condoms; check the pack if you use another material.

How to use and care for silicone lubricants

Apply a few drops to the body or the toy, then add more as needed. Silicone does not dry out, so if things start to feel sticky it is usually sweat or other fluids, and a little water will revive the slip.

• Patch-test a new formula on your inner arm if you have sensitive skin.
• Keep it away from silicone toys unless the toy maker says otherwise; clean toys with a toy cleaner or warm soapy water.
• Wipe spills promptly, as silicone can make tiled floors slippery and may stain some fabrics.
• Wash off with warm water and soap; a washcloth helps.
• Store the bottle closed, out of direct sunlight, and stop using any formula that stings or irritates.

Silicone lubricants for anal play, couples and water play

Silicone lubricant suits anyone who finds water-based lube dries out too quickly. Couples enjoy it for longer sessions and for sex in the shower, where water-based formulas rinse away. For anal beginners, a thick anal formula paired with a small, flared-base toy is a comfortable place to start. If you prefer to keep things simple, the general lubricants collection lets you compare every base side by side.
