Collars & Leashes

What are collars and leashes?

A collar is a band worn around the neck, and a leash clips to it so a partner can guide the wearer. In bondage and role play they signal ownership, submission or simply a mood, and they are among the least intimidating pieces of gear to try. This collection covers everything from delicate lace and crystal day collars that pass as jewellery to faux leather collar and leash sets, posture collars and collars built into body chains, spreader bars and nipple clip combinations.

Types of collars and leashes

Day collars

Slim, decorative collars from Sex and Mischief in lace, velvet-look fabric or with crystal and ring details. They are designed to be comfortable enough to wear for long periods and subtle enough for everyday outfits.

Collar and leash sets

The classic combination: a buckled collar with a ring, plus a matching chain or strap leash. Ouch! city collections, Nocturnal, Edge, Velvet Noir and the furry Cougar set are typical, and buying a set keeps the hardware consistent. Browse separate pieces in collars and leashes.

Decorative and fashion collars

Fetish and Fashion's named collars, Euphoria chain halters and Master Series collars with a body chain are as much about the look as the function, and pair well with lingerie.

Collars with attachments

Some collars connect to nipple clips or ties, a spreader bar with cuffs, or a leash and clamps in one. A rigid locking posture collar with a chin brace sits at the advanced end and holds the head in a fixed position.

How to choose a collar or leash

Fit and comfort come before appearance. A collar you forget you are wearing will be used far more than a dramatic one that pinches.

• Neck size: measure your neck and check the adjustable range. You should be able to slip a finger or two underneath when fastened.
• Material: lace, velvet and soft fabric suit longer wear; faux leather and leather look firmer and hold a leash better; chain is purely decorative.
• Fastening: buckles are secure and adjustable; snap or quick-release clasps come off fast, which matters in play.
• Hardware: a sturdy D-ring or O-ring is needed if you plan to attach a leash or restraints.
• Purpose: a day collar for symbolism and comfort, a set for scenes, a posture collar only once you are experienced.

How to use and care for collars and leashes

The neck is a vulnerable area, so a collar should never be tight and a leash should guide, never yank.

• Agree a check-in word before play and make sure the collar can be removed quickly if the wearer feels light-headed or anxious.
• Never pull a leash hard or attach it to anything fixed, and never tie a collar off so the wearer cannot free themselves.
• Do not leave a collar on someone who is sleeping or unattended, and avoid posture collars unless you both know what you are doing.
• Wipe faux leather and leather with a damp cloth, hand wash lace and fabric, and dry metal hardware to stop tarnish.
• Check stitching, rings and buckles for wear before each use.

Collars and leashes for couples and beginners

For couples exploring power play, a soft collar and leash set is a gentle first step that needs no special skill; the wearer can take it off at any time, and the symbolism does most of the work. A lace or crystal day collar makes a thoughtful gift that can be worn openly. Pair a collar with a blindfold, soft cuffs or a feather tickler to build a simple scene, and talk afterwards about how it felt for both of you.
