Handcuffs & Cuffs

What are handcuffs and cuffs for adult play?

Handcuffs and cuffs for adult play are playful restraints designed to hold wrists or ankles gently in place during consensual, partnered play. They add anticipation and trust to intimate moments and are one of the most popular ways to try bondage-style play. Most of this collection is a single pair of handcuffs; the rest are sets that pair wrist cuffs with ankle or thigh cuffs. For a wider range of bondage gear, see all our restraints.

Types of handcuffs and cuffs

Metal handcuffs

Classic chain-linked cuffs from Fetish Fantasy Series, Temptasia and CalExotics with a firm, authentic look. They are best for short, supervised play, and you should always keep the key where you can reach it. Fetish Fantasy's quick-release handcuffs open without hunting for a key.

Fur-lined and fluffy cuffs

Ouch!, Master Series, Playful Furry and Sex and Mischief cover metal cuffs in soft faux fur, which spreads pressure and feels gentler on the skin, making them a common first choice for beginners.

Silicone and soft cuffs

Sex and Mischief's Indica, Amor, Shadow and Peaches N Creame silicone cuffs and Sportsheets' soft cuffs are smooth, flexible and easy to wipe clean. Convertible styles work on wrists or ankles.

Leather and vegan leather cuffs

Rouge's plain, padded and fur-lined leather wrist cuffs and the Fetish Play vegan leather cuffs buckle on with adjustable straps and a ring for connecting them. Our wrist and ankle restraints collection covers the matching ankle cuffs.

Wrist and ankle sets

Temptasia's Ardor silicone wrist and ankle restraints, the Sportsheets and Sex and Mischief thigh and wrist cuffs and the Lux Fetish Bondage Buddy join two or four limbs at once. Me You Us bundles silicone cuffs with a blindfold for a ready-made first kit.

How to choose

• Start with comfort. Padded or lined cuffs are gentler, and adjustable straps let you set a comfortable fit.
• Look at the release. Quick-release fastenings or a key you can find easily are important. Check that locks and buckles work before every use.
• Check materials. Choose smooth finishes without sharp edges, and consider your skin if you are sensitive to metals or certain fabrics.
• Think about the scene. If you want cuffs anchored to the bed, see bed and body restraints; to hold limbs apart, add a spreader bar.
• Prefer no hardware? Rope and bondage tape do the same job with nothing to unlock.

Safety first

• Consent and communication. Talk through boundaries beforehand, with everyone agreeing to what will happen.
• Agree on a safe word. Use a clear word or signal that means stop immediately, and always respect it.
• Never leave someone restrained alone. Stay present for the whole time.
• Check circulation. You should be able to fit a finger under the cuff. If there is tingling, numbness, coldness or color change, release right away.
• Avoid numbing products. Do not use numbing creams or sprays while restrained, as you may not notice if something is wrong.
• Skip alcohol and drugs. Clear judgment matters when anyone is restrained.
• Do not hang or pull your weight. Cuffs are not designed to support body weight and should never be placed on the neck.

How to use and care

Begin gently and keep sessions short at first. Check in often with each other, and release the cuffs slowly at the end. Afterward, check the skin for marks and take time to relax together.

To clean metal cuffs, wipe them with a damp cloth and mild soap, then dry them thoroughly so they do not rust. Leather and vegan leather should be wiped with a gentle cleaner and conditioned occasionally. Fluffy or fabric cuffs may need spot cleaning, so follow the care label. Store them in a cool, dry place, keep keys somewhere safe but easy to find, and inspect stitching, hinges and locks regularly for wear.
