What are blindfolds?

A blindfold is a soft mask worn over the eyes to block vision during intimate play. Removing sight makes the wearer focus on touch, temperature, sound and scent, and it adds a sense of anticipation because they cannot see what is coming next. Blindfolds are one of the gentlest introductions to sensory play and kink: they need no skill, involve no restraint on their own, and can be lifted off in a second. They range from inexpensive satin eye masks to padded leather pieces with buckles, and many sets in our wider blindfolds and sensory deprivation range include one as a matter of course.

Types of blindfolds

Satin and soft fabric blindfolds

Satin blindfolds from Sex and Mischief, Fetish Fantasy, Sportsheets and the Fifty Shades of Grey Play Nice range are lightweight, cool against the skin and easy to pack. They are the usual starting point and the style included in most kits.

Lace blindfolds

Veiled Vision, Sincerely Lace and the Fifty Shades of Grey Play Nice blindfold use lace for a romantic, lingerie-like look. Some lace lets a little light through, which suits playful teasing more than total darkness.

Padded and leather blindfolds

Rouge and Strict make padded or fleece-lined blindfolds in leather or vegan leather, some with an adjustable buckle. These block light fully and stay put during more energetic play.

Silicone, vinyl and specialty styles

Temptasia's silicone blindfold wipes clean, Renegade's vinyl version has a glossy fetish look, and Master Series and Strict offer hoods or harnesses that combine a blindfold with an open-mouth or ball gag.

Blindfold kits

Secret Kisses Rosegasm sets pair a satin blindfold with cuffs, a hogtie, a spreader bar, a pleasure swing or a strap-on harness, so you can build a scene from one box.

How to choose blindfolds

All blindfolds do the same basic job, so the decision is mostly about comfort, light-blocking and style.

• Light-blocking: padded leather and contoured styles block light completely; thin satin and lace may let some through.
• Fit: elastic straps are quick and one-size; buckle straps adjust more precisely and stay in place longer.
• Comfort: fleece or satin lining feels better against the eyes, especially for longer wear or if the wearer has lashes or makeup to protect.
• Cleaning: silicone and vinyl wipe down; satin and lace generally need gentle hand washing.
• Look: lace reads romantic, leather reads kinky, and the city-themed Ouch! collections come in colors that match their other pieces.

How to use and care for blindfolds

Agree a check-in word or signal before the blindfold goes on, and remember that the person wearing it cannot see hazards, so clear the space and guide them by hand. Keep sessions comfortable and check in often, especially when combining a blindfold with cuffs or ties from our restraints range, which should always have a quick release. Blindfolds pair well with a feather, an ice cube or a quiet toy from our vibrators collection for guessing games.

• Hand wash satin and lace in cool water with mild soap and lay flat to dry.
• Wipe leather with a damp cloth and condition occasionally; wipe silicone and vinyl with a toy cleaner or soapy water.
• Store flat or hung so elastic does not stretch and padding keeps its shape.
• Replace any blindfold with frayed straps or cracked buckles.

Blindfolds for beginners, couples and sensory play

If you are curious about kink but not ready for restraints, a satin blindfold is the lowest-pressure first step, and our beginners collection has more easy entries. Couples can trade roles, letting each partner experience the anticipation of being blindfolded while the other sets the pace. For a fuller scene, the Rosegasm kits or a padded leather blindfold worn with lingerie and soft cuffs turn a simple accessory into a whole evening.
