What are restraint kits?

A restraint kit is a bondage set that combines cuffs with the straps, anchors or connectors that hold them in place. A kit gives you a complete, matched system. The most common is the under-bed system, which slides between mattress and base and leaves adjustable cuffs at the corners. Others include hogties that link wrists and ankles behind the body, door restraints that hang from a closed door, frog-tie kneeling systems, bondage belts with attached cuffs and matched sets of cuffs, collar and leash. For individual cuffs and ties, see our main restraints collection.

Types of restraint kits

Under-bed and bed restraint systems

Sportsheets, Strict, Ouch!, Lux Fetish, Frisky and Fetish Fantasy Series make straps that run beneath or around the mattress, with soft cuffs at each corner. They need no fixings and tuck away when not in use. This is the classic beginner kit, and more options are in restraint systems.

Hogtie and frog-tie kits

Hogties connect wrist and ankle cuffs behind the body; frog-ties fold the legs and bind thigh to ankle for a kneeling position. Fetish Fantasy Series offers heavy-duty hogtie kits and Strict makes frog-tie and thigh cuff systems. These restrict movement more, so they suit experienced partners.

Door and anywhere restraints

Door kits from Ouch! use straps that anchor over the top of a closed door, leaving cuffs hanging at hand height for standing bondage. Sportsheets and Sex and Mischief also make portable anywhere systems.

Bondage belts and body restraint sets

Bondage belt systems from Ouch! and Fetish Fantasy Series, the Master Series saddle strap belt and full body restraint set, and WhipSmart's neck and wrist set keep the arms positioned against the body. They are wearable and work well with other bondage kits.

Cuff, collar and leash sets

Master Series offers matched cuffs, collar and leash in leather, velvet and rainbow styles, and Fetish Fantasy Series has an adjustable nylon set. Soft bed kits with a satin blindfold, such as Secret Kisses Rosegasm, are gentle for a first attempt; the beginner bondage kits collection has more in this spirit.

How to choose restraint kits

Choose the position you want to explore, then make sure the kit is comfortable and quick to undo.

• Position: Lying spread on the bed calls for an under-bed system; standing play suits door restraints; hogties and frog-ties are for more immobilizing scenes.
• Release: Look for buckles, hook-and-loop or quick-release clips rather than knots or locks, so the restrained partner can be freed in seconds.
• Cuff comfort: Padded, lined or velvet cuffs are kinder for longer scenes; vinyl and plain nylon feel stricter.
• Adjustability: Adjustable straps fit more bodies and bed sizes; check the maximum length for a large mattress.
• Experience: First-timers should favor soft sets with plenty of give; experienced couples can move on to hogties and full body sets.

How to use and care for restraint kits

Before anyone is tied, agree on a safe word and a non-verbal signal, and check that every cuff can be released quickly without searching for a key. Fit cuffs snugly but loose enough to slide a finger beneath.

• Never leave a restrained partner alone, and check in often about numbness, tingling or cold hands and feet.
• Keep safety scissors nearby for any strap that is hard to undo in a hurry.
• Avoid pressure on the front of the neck and never attach a collar or leash to anything that could tighten.
• Wipe cuffs and straps with a damp cloth after use, let them dry fully and store them loosely coiled away from heat.
• Stop immediately if anything hurts, and release at the first sign of panic or loss of circulation.

Restraint kits for beginners and couples

Couples curious about bondage usually do best with an under-bed restraint system or a soft bed kit: both are forgiving, quick to release and easy to pair with a blindfold. Once you are comfortable, a door restraint changes the scene without much extra gear, and hogties or frog-ties add intensity for partners who already communicate well about limits. Pair any kit with a lingerie piece or a blindfold to build the mood.
