What are garters and garter belts?

A garter belt, also called a suspender belt, sits around the waist or hips and holds stockings up with adjustable straps and clips. A garter on its own is a decorative band worn around the thigh or leg. Both are classic lingerie pieces that frame the legs and give an outfit a finished, deliberately dressed look. This collection brings together garter belts, garter stockings with the belt built in, thigh and leg garters, matching sets, and a few harnesses and strap-on pieces that use garter straps as part of their design.

Types of garters and garter belts

Garter belts

Lace, vinyl, strappy elastic and rhinestone belts from Leg Avenue and striped fishnet belts from Le Desir are worn with separate stockings. Look for adjustable straps and secure clips. Browse the separate garter collection for more belts.

Garterbelt stockings

Le Desir's garterbelt stockings combine the belt and the stockings in one piece, in fishnet, lace-top, high-waist and open designs. They are the easiest way to get the look with nothing to clip together.

Thigh and leg garters

Single garters from Sex and Mischief in lace, chain or laced-up styles, Leg Avenue leg wraps and a studded thigh suspender with chain detail are worn on their own as an accent, with or without stockings.

Sets and outfits

Bra, garter belt and thong sets from Pink Pussycat, crop top and garter hose sets from Lapdance Lingerie, and bodystockings or teddies with garter details give a coordinated look in one purchase. A men's lace and mesh garter panty is also included.

Harnesses with garters

Leg Avenue body harnesses with side garters, and strap-on panty harnesses from Bedroom Bliss, Strap U and Fetish Fantasy with garter straps, cross over from lingerie into play and pair with dildos.

How to choose a garter belt

The right belt stays put, holds the stockings without tugging and feels comfortable for a whole evening.

• Size and fit: check the size chart against your waist and hip measurements, and note whether a piece is one size, queen or plus.
• Straps: adjustable straps let you set the tension so stockings stay smooth; more straps hold more securely.
• Clips: metal or firm plastic clips grip stockings better than flimsy ones. Garterbelt stockings avoid clips altogether.
• Fabric: lace and mesh feel soft and sheer, vinyl and vegan leather are bolder and firmer, and elastic strappy styles are stretchy and forgiving.
• Coordination: a set, or a belt in the same colour as your bra and panties, gives the most polished result. Explore the wider lingerie range to match.

How to wear and care for garters

Put the belt on first, then the stockings, then the panties over the straps so the belt can stay on when the panties come off.

• Clip the front straps first, then the back, and adjust the length so the stocking tops sit flat without pulling.
• Roll stockings on gently to avoid snagging them on clips or rhinestones.
• Hand wash lace, mesh and fishnet in cool water with a mild detergent and lay flat to dry.
• Wipe vinyl and vegan leather with a damp cloth and store flat or hanging so straps do not stretch.
• Check clips and elastic now and then and retire pieces that have lost their grip.

Garters for date nights, role play and gifts

A garter belt and stockings is one of the most recognisable looks in lingerie, which makes it a reliable choice for couples marking an occasion. Thigh garters work for costume and role play with almost no effort, while garterbelt stockings suit anyone who wants the look without fiddling with clips. As a gift, a coordinated set in a flattering size is hard to get wrong.
