What are gem butt plugs?

A gem butt plug is an anal plug whose flared base is set with a decorative jewel. Functionally it is a standard plug: a tapered tip, a bulb, a slim neck and a wide base that keeps the toy from slipping inside. The gem turns the visible part into something sparkly, popular for photos, dressing up and partner play. Bases range from classic round crystals to hearts, clovers, flowers and rainbow prisms, and the plugs themselves come in silicone, glass and metal, with a few rechargeable vibrating options. They are a decorative subset of our wider butt plugs range and overlap with jeweled butt plugs.

Types of gem butt plugs

Classic single gem plugs

Booty Sparks heart, clover, pink, rainbow prism and glitter gem plugs and the Rear Assets silver plugs are the signature style: a smooth, firm body with a faceted stone in the base. Most come in small, medium and large.

Glass gem plugs

Oh My Gem Prestige and Lustre, Crystal Desires red heart and rainbow gem, and the Booty Sparks glass plugs combine a clear or colored glass body with a gem base. Glass is non-porous and can be warmed or cooled; see glass butt plugs for more.

Silicone gem plugs

Cotton Candy Joy Gems in topaz, sapphire and ruby, and the Fantasy For Her Little Gem plugs, use soft silicone bodies that flex with you, which many beginners prefer.

Gem training kits

Luxe Bling kits with rainbow, red or white gems and the Fantasy For Her Little Gems trainer set each include graduated silicone plugs with matching stones.

Vibrating gem plugs

Oh My Gem Charm and Mystery, the Power Gem Vibrating Crystal Probe and the Master Series Paragon add a rechargeable motor behind the jewel for a buzz that is felt rather than seen.

How to choose gem butt plugs

The gem is cosmetic; the plug underneath is what you will feel.

  • Size: start small. Many ranges here offer small, medium and large, and a training kit gives you all of them.
  • Material: silicone is soft and body-warm; glass and metal are rigid, heavier and hold temperature. Rigid plugs feel fuller for their size.
  • Base shape: a round gem base is comfortable for wearing; heart and flower bases look striking but check they are still wide enough to stay outside the body.
  • Wear time: if you plan to wear the plug under clothing, a smaller plug with a slim neck and a flat gem is the practical pick.
  • Vibration: a rechargeable vibrating gem plug costs more but adds a lot for partner play.

How to use and care for gem butt plugs

Apply plenty of lubricant to the plug and yourself, relax, and insert slowly until the neck sits comfortably. Use water-based lubricant with silicone plugs; glass and metal tolerate any type. Never use a plug without a flared base anally, and stop if anything hurts.

  • Wash with warm water and mild soap or a toy cleaner before and after use, paying attention to the setting around the gem where residue can collect.
  • Do not boil gem plugs: heat can loosen the stone. Hand wash only, and keep vibrating models out of water unless marked waterproof.
  • Check that the gem is secure before each use and retire the plug if it becomes loose.
  • Store in a soft pouch so the stone does not scratch other toys.

Gem butt plugs for beginners, couples and dressing up

For a first plug, a small silicone or glass gem plug, or the smallest piece of a Luxe Bling kit, is gentle and forgiving; our beginners butt plugs page has more. Couples enjoy the visual element, matching the stone to lingerie or letting a partner choose the color. For costume and role play, the heart, clover and flower bases make a playful statement, and a vibrating gem plug adds movement.

FAQs

Gem Butt Plugs: frequently asked questions

Can you wear a gem butt plug all day?

It is better not to. Wear a gem plug for shorter periods at first and remove it if you feel any discomfort, numbness or need to sit for long stretches. A small plug with a slim neck and a flat gem is the most practical for extended wear.

Is the gem on a butt plug safe?

The gem sits in the flared base, which stays outside the body, so it is decorative rather than functional. Check that the stone is firmly set before each use, avoid boiling gem plugs since heat can loosen the setting, and retire any plug whose gem becomes loose.

What size gem butt plug should I start with?

Start with a small plug, or the smallest piece of a gem training kit such as Luxe Bling or Little Gems. Many ranges here offer small, medium and large versions of the same design, so you can move up later without changing the look.

How do I clean a gem butt plug?

Hand wash with warm water and mild soap or a toy cleaner before and after use, paying attention to the setting around the gem where residue collects. Do not boil gem plugs. Keep vibrating models out of water unless marked waterproof, then dry fully.

Are gem butt plugs made of metal or glass?

Both, plus silicone. Oh My Gem, Crystal Desires and some Booty Sparks plugs are glass; Cotton Candy, Fantasy For Her and the Luxe kits are silicone; and the firmer single plugs are smooth and weighty. Check each product page for the exact material.
