Lubricantes de efecto calor

What are warming lubricants?

A warming lubricant is a personal lubricant with an added ingredient that creates a mild sensation of heat on the skin. The warmth usually builds with friction and intensifies if you blow on it, which is why these formulas are popular for massage and oral play as well as sex. Underneath the warming effect they behave like any other lubricant: water-based ones are light and wash off easily, silicone ones last longer, hybrids sit between the two, and oil-cream versions are rich and slow. The sensation is a sensory extra, not a change in how the lube performs.

Types of warming lubricants

Water-based warming lubricants

The largest group, from System JO's water-based line, Sliquid Naturals Sizzle, K-Y Jelly Warming, Wicked Aqua Heat, Pink, Main Squeeze, Elbow Grease's water-based warming formula and After Dark Essentials. They are safe with every toy material, easy to clean and the right place to start. See the full water-based lubricants range for non-warming versions.

Silicone warming lubricants

Wicked Ultra Heat and JO Premium Warming use a silicone base that stays slick far longer and does not dry out. They are excellent for longer sessions but should not be used with silicone toys.

Hybrid and oil-cream warming lubricants

JO's silicone-free coconut hybrid blends water and oil for a longer-lasting feel that still washes off, and Elbow Grease's warming oil cream is a thick formula suited to extended play and massage.

Flavoured and oral warming lubricants

Oralove's lickable warming and tingling duo and After Dark's strawberry warming lube are made to be tasted, so the warmth works in both directions during oral sex. More in flavored and edible lubricants.

Anal warming lubricants

System JO makes warming versions of its anal lubricants in both water-based and silicone bases, thicker formulas for anal play, where more cushioning and a longer-lasting glide matter.

How to choose a warming lubricant

Pick the base first, then the strength of the sensation.

• Base: water-based for toys and easy clean-up; silicone for long sessions and water play; hybrid for a middle ground; oil-cream for massage, but not with latex condoms.
• Heat level: products described as ultra or extra warming are noticeably stronger; start with a standard formula if you have sensitive skin.
• Use: flavoured formulas for oral, thicker anal formulas for anal, and a plain water-based one for everything else.
• Ingredients: if you prefer plant-derived or botanical formulas, Sliquid Organics and Intimate Earth offer naturally warming options; see natural and organic lubricants.
• Toy compatibility: check what your toys are made of before buying silicone or oil-based lube.

How to use and care for warming lubricants

A little goes a long way, and the sensation should always be pleasant.

• Patch-test a small amount on your inner wrist or arm before the first use, and wait a few minutes.
• Apply a small amount, let it warm with friction and breath, and add more as needed rather than starting with a lot.
• Use water-based formulas with silicone toys; keep silicone and oil-based lubes for skin-to-skin or glass and metal toys.
• Rinse off with warm water afterwards, and clean any toys with a toy cleaner.
• Stop and wash off immediately if you feel stinging or irritation rather than gentle warmth, and store bottles capped, away from heat and sunlight.

Warming lubricants for couples, massage and first-time users

Most people buy warming lube to add something to partnered sex, and a water-based formula from System JO or Sliquid is the usual first bottle: compatible with everything, mild enough to use generously and easy to wash off. Couples who enjoy massage should look at the oil-cream and hybrid options, which stay slick for longer. If you want to go further, our cooling lubricants offer the opposite sensation, and alternating the two is a favourite trick.
