What are thrusting dildos?

A thrusting dildo is a powered dildo whose shaft extends and retracts on its own, mimicking the in-and-out motion of sex without you having to move it. Most also vibrate, many are rechargeable silicone, and a growing number add heating, rotation, gyration or squirting. Some are controlled by buttons on the base, some by a wireless remote, and some by a smartphone app that allows a partner to drive from across the room or across the world. They sit between a standard dildo and a full sex machine, in a toy you can hold, mount or stick to the floor.

Types of thrusting dildos

Realistic thrusting dildos

Dr. Skin Platinum, Real Rock, Naked Addiction, Loadz and the Honey Play Box Paxton and Kenzo have lifelike heads and shafts, some with balls. Browse more in our realistic dildos.

Fantasy thrusting dildos

Creature Cocks dominates here with centaurs, hell wolves, gargoyles and dragons, and Alien Nation adds Fire Dragon and Phoenix. See the full fantasy dildos range.

App-controlled thrusting dildos

Lovense Gravity and the Honey Play Box Paxton, Luis and Kenzo connect to a phone app for long-distance or hands-off control. The Luis adds a clitoral licker for dual stimulation.

Suction cup and mountable thrusters

Romp Jiggle, Real Rock, Throb and the Temptasia Violet Vixen come with a suction cup or mount so you can fix them to a floor or shower wall and ride.

Thrusting dildos with extra functions

Dr. Skin Dr. Arthur and Dr. Knight gyrate as well as thrust, Loadz squirts, Monster Romance Gargoyle and Skinsations Cumquake warm up, and the Cowgirl Rodeo Rider grinds and taps. Master Series' Auto Pounder and Power Pounder models and the Dr. Skin Dr. Hammer add a handle so a partner can steer the thrust.

How to choose thrusting dildos

Thrusters cost more than a plain dildo, so weigh these points first.

• Stroke and speed: some thrusters move a short distance quickly, others take longer strokes. Product descriptions list travel distance and patterns.
• Size: measure a dildo you already enjoy. Fantasy thrusters in particular run large, and the motor housing adds to the overall length.
• Control: base buttons are simplest, a remote frees your hands, and app control adds long-distance play but relies on a phone connection.
• Mounting: if you want to ride hands-free, you need a suction cup or a mount; handheld and handled models are better for partnered use.
• Extra functions: vibration, heat, rotation and squirting all add sensation and cost. Pick the one or two you actually want.

How to use and care for thrusting dildos

Charge fully and test the motions in your hand before the first session. Apply a generous amount of water-based lubricant; silicone lube can damage silicone toys. Start on the slowest thrust, let your body get used to the motion, and never force the toy if it meets resistance. For anal use, choose a model with a flared base or suction cup and go slower still. Stop if anything hurts.

• Wash the shaft with warm soapy water or a toy cleaner before and after use; keep the motor housing and charging port out of the water unless the toy is marked waterproof.
• Dry fully before storing, ideally in the original box so the suction cup stays clean.
• Do not run the motor dry for long periods or press hard against the base while it thrusts.
• Store away from other silicone toys to avoid surface reactions.

Thrusting dildos for solo play, couples and anal use

Solo users get the most from suction cup and mounted thrusters. Couples often prefer remote or app-controlled models so one partner can steer while the other relaxes. For anal play, pick a thruster with a secure flared base, start with the shortest stroke, and use plenty of lubricant. If you like the motion but want something smaller, the thrusting vibrators collection is the next place to look.
