Whips

What are whips?

A whip is a flexible impact toy: a handle with one or more tails that land with a sting rather than the thud of a paddle. This collection holds leather whips with skull detailing from Ouch!, Rouge devil tail whips, Prowler Red hard, long handle and Turkish knot whips, silicone whips from Master Series, a rubber whip from Sportsheets, a Scottish tawse from Strict, a bull whip, chain-style whips from the Dominant Submissive collection and several kits that pair a whip with a feather, a paddle or cuffs.

Types of whips

Leather and faux leather whips

Classic whips with leather tails, such as the Ouch! Skulls and Bones pieces, the Rouge devil tail and Prowler Red's Turkish knot whips, plus a braided faux leather whip from Leg Avenue. Leather lands with a sharp, bright sting that builds quickly, so start with light strokes.

Silicone and rubber whips

Master Series' Viper Tail and Stung tawse whips are made of silicone, and Sportsheets offers a large rubber whip. Both are easy to wipe clean and give a cleaner, more precise sting than leather.

Tawse and strap whips

The Scottish tawse is a flat leather strap, usually split at the end, swung like a short whip. It delivers a broader, heavier sensation than a tail whip and is traditionally aimed at the palm or the buttocks.

Chain, beaded and bull whips

Studded and spiked chain-style whips from the Dominant Submissive collection, a beaded flogger whip and a crystal whip from Sex and Mischief and a Scandal bull whip add weight or theatre. They suit partners with some experience.

Whip kits for beginners

Sets from Nasstoys, Sex and Mischief, Luv and Dominant Submissive bundle a whip with a feather tickler, a paddle or cuffs, which is the easiest introduction: alternate a few strokes with the softer tool and the contrast does most of the work.

How to choose a whip

Match the intensity to your experience and decide whether you want sting, thud or a bit of theatre.

• Sting or thud: thin leather tails sting; a flat tawse thuds. Beginners usually prefer thud, which feels warm rather than sharp.
• Length: shorter whips are easier to aim and far safer indoors. Save longer tails and bull whips for when your accuracy is reliable.
• Material: silicone and rubber wipe clean and can be shared with care; leather needs conditioning and should stay with one partner.
• Handle: a comfortable grip or wrist loop reduces fatigue and keeps your aim steady.
• Kit or single whip: a kit with a feather or paddle gives you a softer option to mix in while you learn.

How to use and care for whips

Impact play is about control, not force. Warm up with hand spanking, start lighter than you think, and build slowly while watching your partner's reactions.

• Aim only at padded areas: the buttocks, the backs of the thighs and the upper back away from the spine. Never strike the kidneys, the lower back, the neck, joints or the face.
• Agree a check-in word and a hand signal before you begin, and stop immediately when it is used.
• Practise on a pillow first to learn where the tails land.
• Wipe silicone and rubber whips with a toy cleaner; wipe leather with a barely damp cloth and condition it occasionally.
• Check the skin afterwards and have water, a blanket and time set aside for aftercare.

Whips for beginners and couples

Couples who are curious about impact play do well to start with a whip and feather kit alongside the starter items in our beginner collection, then explore the wider couples range. Once you want a fuller scene, cuffs from our restraints collection hold a partner in place. Keep anything that locks or buckles within reach of a quick release, and agree on limits before the first stroke.
