Couples Games

What are couples games?

Couples games are card, dice and board games designed for two people who are already intimate, or would like to be. Unlike party games, they are not about winning. The cards and dice are a prompt: a question to answer, a dare to carry out, a position to try or a part of the body to attend to. They take the awkwardness out of asking for something new, because the game asked, not you. Most are small enough to fit in a drawer, cost about the same as a greeting card and need nothing more than a bed and an evening.

Types of couples games

Card games

The largest group. CalExotics decks such as Pillow Talk, Tempt and Tease, Intimate Dares and Love Poker, and Kheper Games decks such as Hedonism, Sexy Rendez Vous and Tantric Sex, work on a simple draw-and-do rule. Some are romantic and conversational; others are explicit from the first card.

Dice games

Sex dice from Jelique, Creative Conceptions, Behind Closed Doors and Kheper Games pair an action die with a body-part die. Roll, read, do. They are the quickest game to learn and the easiest to keep in a bedside drawer; one set even glows in the dark.

Board games

Sex Around The World, Bedroom Bingo and the Behind Closed Doors Lovers Choice game give you a board, tokens and a longer arc of play, with the challenges building as you go. Expect a full evening rather than a quick round.

Question and connection games

Love Language, Connect, Rose Petal Love Notes and the EPQ For Lovers game are more talk than touch. They are for couples who want to learn something about each other before, or instead of, anything physical.

Kits and action packs

The Secret Kisses kit, Ready Sex Go! and Chocolate Seductions bundle a game with small extras, so the evening is planned for you.

How to choose a couples game

The right game depends on how adventurous you both feel and how much time you have.

• Heat level: read the product description for how explicit the cards are. Romantic decks are safe for a first date night; dare and position games are not.
• Length of play: dice take minutes, card decks half an hour or so, board games a whole evening.
• Talk or touch: question games build connection; action games build anticipation. Many couples own one of each.
• Inclusivity: look for editions written for all couples, such as the Pride dice set, if gendered prompts would get in the way.
• Replay value: a big deck or a board with random elements stays fresh longer than a small dice set.

How to use and care for couples games

Games work best when both players agree to the rules before the first card.

• Agree a simple pass rule in advance; either player can skip a card without explanation, and a check-in word stops the game entirely.
• Read the whole instruction sheet first so nobody is surprised by what a card asks.
• Keep a lubricant and any toys you might want within reach so a dare does not stall the mood; a couples toy kit covers most prompts.
• Keep cards dry and away from massage oils or candles; store the box somewhere private.
• Wipe dice with a damp cloth if they have been handled with oily hands.

Couples games for new couples, long-term partners and date nights

New couples usually start with a conversation deck or a romantic card game, which sets a pace without pressure. Long-term partners often go straight to dares, positions or a board game, because the point is to break a routine. Either way, a game pairs naturally with the rest of our couples collection: a couples vibrator for a dare card, or something from lingerie for strip poker.
