What is adult candy?

Adult candy is ordinary sweets made rude. The shapes, names and packaging are designed to make grown-ups laugh, which is why these products turn up at bachelorette and bachelor parties, milestone birthdays, holiday gift exchanges and office gag swaps. Some of it is purely decorative humor, such as lollipops shaped like a penis or mints with a sweary label. Some of it is made to be used in the bedroom, such as popping candy intended for oral sex and gummy underwear meant to be nibbled off a partner. Either way, it is inexpensive, easy to gift and a low-pressure way to add a bit of fun to a night in.

Types of adult candy

Pecker pops and penis-shaped lollipops

The classic party sweet. This collection includes jumbo cock pops, rainbow pecker pops, holiday versions and liquor-flavored cocktail pops in flavors like orange. They are usually sold individually or in display boxes for handing around a party.

Candy rings, necklaces and bracelets

Penis-shaped ring pops and multi-flavored candy necklaces and bracelets double as party favors and photo props. They are an easy way to dress up a bachelorette group without spending much.

Edible gummy underwear

Gummy panties and gummy undies for men come in fruit flavors such as strawberry, watermelon and peach. They are worn briefly and eaten off, so they are more of a couples game than a serious garment.

Oral sex popping candy

Popping candy sold under names like BJ Blast and BJ Bang is held in the mouth during oral sex for a fizzing, crackling sensation. Fruit flavors such as cherry, strawberry and watermelon are typical. Pair it with a flavored lubricant if you want to keep the sweet theme going.

Cocktail suckers, mints and novelty sweets

Liquor-flavored cocktail suckers, bags of candy with sweary names, and sperm-shaped gummies round out the range. Much of this comes from Candyprints, whose packaging does most of the joke-telling.

How to choose adult candy

Most of the decision comes down to who it is for and how many people you need to cover.

• Occasion: For a bachelorette party, pick pecker pops, candy rings and necklaces that work as favors. For a couple, choose popping candy or gummy undies instead.
• Quantity: Display boxes and multi-packs are economical for a crowd; single packs suit a gift bag or a stocking.
• Humor level: Some labels are mildly cheeky, others are openly sweary. Match the tone to the guests, especially if family is present.
• Flavor: Fruit flavors are the safe crowd-pleaser; liquor-flavored suckers appeal to cocktail fans but contain no alcohol worth noting, so check the label if that matters.
• Allergies: Read ingredients for gelatin, dairy, nuts and dyes before handing sweets to a group.

How to use and care for adult candy

Handle it like any other confectionery. Keep it sealed and cool until the event, and check dates on anything bought well ahead of time.

• Store in a cool, dry place; gummies and lollipops soften and stick in heat.
• For bedroom use, keep candy external. Sugar should not go inside the vagina, as it can upset the natural balance.
• If you are mixing sweets with toys, clean the toys afterwards with a toy cleaner so no sugar residue remains.
• Popping candy fizzes on contact with saliva, so open the packet just before use.

Adult candy for parties, couples and gifts

For party planners, a mix of pecker pops, candy rings and a bag of sweary sweets covers favors, games and decorations in a single order. For couples, popping candy and gummy underwear make a light-hearted warm-up and pair well with other couples' products. If you are putting together a gift, slip a few sweets in alongside lingerie or a vibrating ring from Rock Candy Toys, which carries the candy theme into the bedroom.
